Game map blueprints

I have been thinking for my game map that I want to have it in a star shape. The star shape fits well with the magical mystical world theme that I want and it gives me 5 points to have objectives at.
I was thinking the person could start in the middle and choose where to go from there, there will be something in each point of the star for the player to collect to finish that game. Each section of the star will be a different environment to play through.
More about that blueprints later.

Finished Tropical death

My finished Tropical death game!

Rocks fall for you to dodge and diamonds fall for you to collect.
Rocks give you 1 point onto your score every time a rock hits the ground.
Diamonds multiply your score, so ever diamond you collect adds .02 to your multiplier.
Having the diamonds and the multiplier adds some reward for the risk in the game.
The game play is simple but fun and addictive! I have calmish music at the start of the game that gets fast in the middle making you believe the rocks are falling faster. The rock spawn speed and falling speed do increase over time as does the diamond spawn time.

The background of my game obviously has a volcano.. My small island features it's volcano and beaches.
The volcano in the background is the has particle systems in the top to make the volcano look like it's spitting out rocks and diamonds.
The volcano makes a rumbling sound when the game first starts up, then the music starts playing.

That is really all there is to know about my game.
The End

Tropical death! D:

I'm very proud to say that I have been smart enough (with the help of google) to add in bonus items to create more reward for risk.

Now while dodging the falling rocks you will be collecting diamonds that are spurting out of the volcano along with the rocks. This gives more of a reason to be on the island.

Backstory; you're on the tropical island collecting rare items when the volcano erupts! This is horrible news, but one good thing came out of it, the volcano is spurting diamonds!! $.$ you will be rich! just don't die! avoid the rocks as long as you can while collecting the diamonds as they fall.

Every rock that hits the ground gains you 1 point on your score, diamonds gain you 5. The risk is trying ot get the diamonds while not getting hit by rocks.

mooooooooooore

Update on my tropical death game.
What I have so far is very basic, you move around on the beach to avoid the falling rocks. Now that I have the basic set up I will be adding a score (a score is definitely needed), I'm adding in larger rocks that will fall every now and then just to make it a bit harder. My rocks currently speed up over time to make the game harder.
I will be adding sound effects and noises to match the location and game.
There are lots of extra effects and bonuses that I hope I can add, but for now I will be sticking to the basic game play with just enough extras to make the game fun.

Game update for tropical death

For my tropical death game I decided to go simple and easy (as to keep up with my coding skills....) But I hope to make the game fun.

My game so far:

You're on an island with an active volcano erupting! You must dodge the falling volcanic rocks gaining points for everyone that reaches the ground without hitting you.
The game wont end until you die :P
Once I have finished that basic game I wish to add more too it, such as falling bonus items, or maybe power ups. I will explore ideas like that after I have gotten the basic game.

Tropical death scene. I have gotten the landscape to look topical and deadly :P The volcano smokes when the game is in 'play' mode. The green sphere in the front of the map is the 'player'. The player will move back and forth on the front of the island dodging the falling rocks.

Update

More updates on my story and characters.
I plan on having 2 characters kinda like a Yin-Yang. One white and one black.
They will be in balance with each other.
I'm still thinking about what to have as my third character, however I have my other two sketched up and thought out.
My two main characters will be a shadowy black boy and a light shining white girl. I have sketches to upload later of my two main characters.
To fit the two in with my strange, weird world idea I had before I will have them kinda like the worlds balance. I'm still thinking out the full story but I wish for it to be like a balancing game. The point will to be keeping the world in balance.
The boy being the darkness and the Girl being the light. At this point in time I'm not sure how it will all play through, I am working on that. I will hopefully have more work done on the story soonish.

In class game excercise

On Wednesday night the class all passes around pieces of paper with words we had written on the paper related to 'tropical death'.

My four words that I had to work with were;
-Pineapple farm (place)
-Pelican (object)
-Orbiting (Verb)
-Randomly exploding (way to die)

We all took our words and brainstormed about how to make interesting games out of those words.
My first idea I got from this was Platforms orbiting something and I person jumping from platform to platform avoiding the exploding pineapples being shot at them from the pineapple farm, also avoiding the swooping pelicans.

My second idea was pineapple farm planets with the pineapples orbiting around the farms. The player is riding a pelican and collecting pineapples to shoot at the other pelicans. The other pelican's are bouncing around in the screen. The player needs to defend themselves.

My third idea had a pineapple farm with orbs floating over the pineapples making them orbit the globs when they were ripe. The player is a person near the farm with a pineapple cannon waiting to fire at the swooping pelicans trying to steal the pineapples.

I went with my second idea, the pelicans in space.

Character!!!!!

For a backstory to my game I was thinking about how I could put characters and a story into my game.

I want the world to be mysterious, but not a place someone is exploring. The world will be strange and new to a person who doesn't know anything. The main character will be a person  who simply woke up in the strange world with no memory of anything at all.
I don't want it to be the character is trying to find out who they are, it will be they are that person with no past and nothing that they know of in their future. Everything at the beginning is almost pointless with just the mystery to keep it interesting.

The main character at the beginning wont have anything, just wake up in a strange world with no memory's at all. The memories wont be lost, the person never had any. It is the beginning of life in that world.

The character will meet others along their journey through the strange place.

The backstory will have to do with explaining the meaning behind why the person kinda of just spawned in the world.

The theme for this game is mystery. The whole thing will be strange and wonderful. I hope to have an element of sad in the game too.

More thinking

Thinking about the multiple worlds idea I decided on just one world as designing many for this task wont be the best.

Ideas for a world:

- colourful and bright
- strange and mysterious
- kinda eerie and weird

I got the ideas for a different world from lots of different shows and books.
Some of them being 'Clannad' an anime that has a short sort of story about a girl who lives all alone in a strange world with a mystical feel to it.
Adventure time and Alice in wonderland have the bright and colourful strange worlds.
Pikmin is another strange colourful world that I am using to create mine.

The game/books/movies listed above are a few that I have sort of combined to make a world idea.
